Middle School Rugby is Here!

Middle School rugby is getting started throughout the state. We have teams starting in New Orleans, Covington, Raceland and Shreveport. All boys and girls in grades 6-8 are welcome to attend. Players will be introduced to the game and we will focus on rugby skills, game play, and fitness. All skill levels welcome! Our goal is to have at least as many middle school rugby teams as high school teams in the area within 3 years. For the New Orleans team practice is weekly at 6:30 PM at the Annunciation Recreation Center/Park located at 800 Race St. There is no cost for the introduction. The 2017 Game Management Guidelines produced by USA Rugby are now out and linked in this post. This is a very well done document that every coach and really, every player should go through. This will help you better coach some of the more difficult areas of the game like the tackle and ruck. Louisiana Rugby Week 1

High School Rugby action opened up this weekend with the newly formed Capt Shreve Rugby Club traveling to New Orleans to take on both Jesuit and the Barbarians. Capt Shreve started the season with a tough task of having to go against one of the oldest high school rugby teams in the state. Capt Shreve played the Blue Jays tough but Jesuit prevailed 27 - 5. It was tired group of Capt Shreve players who had to face the Barbarians within a few hours after its first game against Jesuit and Capt Shreve's fatigue showed as the Barbarians rolled to a 48-0 win. Good Morning Rugby Community, Youth Rugby is starting back up for the Spring semester! I am looking for coaches to help out at Audubon Charter (right next to Tulane and Audubon Park), Encore Academy, and Phillis Wheatley Community School.
