Baton Rouge Area Youth Rugby's announcement of summer flag "Rookie Rugby."  It was developed by USA Rugby as a way to introduce rugby to kids in a fun and safe way, while also promoting physical activity and teamwork. This is a great opportunity for children in the area to get involved in a fun and exciting sport while staying active and healthy. 

Flag rugby is a great introduction to the sport of rugby, as it allows children to learn the basic skills and rules of the game in a safe and non-contact environment. It's also a great way to stay active and healthy during the summer months, and provides an opportunity for kids to make new friends and build valuable teamwork and communication skills. Rugby has a strong and growing following in the United States, and by introducing children to the sport at a young age, Baton Rouge Area Youth Rugby will be on a strong competitive playing field!

2023 summer coed flag rugby season registration is now open for ages 6-14.

Youth will engage in a fast-paced and empowering game of rugby that will not only develope the skills of running, kicking, passing, and spacial recognition, but  youth will be better leaders on and off the field through communication and teamwork.

WHAT TO EXPECT

A 2 for 1 Special: Kick-off at the NOLA Gold Stadium "Shrine" to play a round robin against Coquille Covington, New Orleans and Gretna.

The inaugural New Orleans youth flag rugby tournament, Nola Gold Youth Rugby King Creole Cup will be epic at the "Shrine" from 1:30p -3:30p

• No cost, but all registered youth have admission to the NOLA Gold match at 5pm. Parents and Friends will need a ticket to the Nola Gold (special rate will be provided)
• Team assignments, warm up and instruction at 1:30, games from 2-3:30
• NOLA Gold Player/Baton Rouge coaches
• Flag rugby
• 3+ games per team

Youth will then stay to cheer on the NOLA Gold as they close out their homegame against Old Glory DC at 5pm with fireworks.

Fees

$25 USA Rugby Membership (Rugby Xplorer)

Allows athletes to compete in the tournaments

* youth who participated in the Mardi Gras Rugby Tournament do not need to register again, if unsure, please contact Teresa.

$80 Player Registration

Includes a team jersey

Travel expenses not included. Overnight accommodations are available for away games, but are not required. To keep expenses low, youth are encouraged to support local fundraising efforts (TBA). Sponsorship opportunities are available (Registration fees reflect sponsor support)

Youth who previously registered for the 2023 Redfish Youth Rugby Fest will only need to pay an additional $15 fee to join the league summer play.
