Match Preview Bayou Hurricanes vs Blue Jay Rugby - 2017 State Final Rematch

From the Bayou Hurricanes:

This is a big game for you guys with a chance to make a statement in the league. How are you and the guys getting ready?

We are focusing on our style of play and really working on adding some new wrinkles. The boys are looking towards this big match this Saturday. They took hard losing to them in the State Final last year. They are ready for this challenge.

Are they looking forward to it?

Oh, yeah the crowd will be there to watch a great match by both clubs.

What are some of your keys to success in this match?

Well, I would say is to keep the ball out of our half of the field. Just try to keep ball in their half.

Do you have any team leaders you want to highlight and let people know about?

Our team leaders are Reece Guidry Fly-half which is a Junior, Reece was our hooker for two years. Then with the lack of experience, we moved him to Fly-half. Ryen Weaver Inside Center, Junior, His first year playing has established himself as a outstanding tackler and runs the ball well. James Williams Outside Center, Senior, He is a four year veteran and runs hard and fast. Gabriel Cardenas is our Wing, Senior, He has one year under him. He also is a hard fast runner and kicks the ball well.

From Blue Jay Rugby:

This is a big game for you guys with a chance to make a statement in the league. How are you and the guys getting ready? Are they looking forward to it?

Our preparation is the same for every match: just hone the fundamentals. As to excitement, the boys a geared up for some great rugby against a top team.

What are some of your keys to success in this match?

To win we will need to minimize penalties.

Do you have any team leaders you want to highlight and let people know about?

Gabe Massey, 10. Massey is a tactical leader with superb distribution skills and great vision. Matt Palmer, 12. Palmer is a great striker with excellent footwork. Langston Goldenberg, 4. Goldenberg is a lineout specialist who wins defensive lineouts as frequently as offensive.

You've taken a slightly different approach to this season with a lot of out of league trips and matches. How do you think that has played out? Are you guys peaking at the right time?

Playing high quality teams in the preseason helped us player selection and pattern reflection. We think our preseason schedule has helped make the team strong and battle tested.
